What we do

Ending extreme poverty and promoting gender equity in Kenya through entrepreneurship and capacity building

Approximately 16.4 million people in Kenya are living in extreme poverty.

This is further worsened by the devastating impact of climate change, lack of access to resources and gender inequality resulting in a vicious cycle of poverty. Our goal is to change this narrrative.

Wake na Vijana Initiatives employs a holistic approach towards poverty alleviation and promoting equality. Acknowledging that sustainable development hinges on addressing multiple root causes of poverty and inequality, Wake na Vijana Initiatives is committed to empowering both women and girls, while also providing mentorship and support for the boy-child.

Through targeted programs and initiatives, we seek to dismantle systemic barriers and promote equal opportunities, fostering a more inclusive and balanced society.

St. Luke Ekware Secondary School - The EU-funded grassroots initiative began with an interactive workshop at St. Luke Ekware Secondary School in Nyamasibi, Kisii County. Titled "Gaki Tegerera!" (a Kisii phrase for "please listen"), this workshop was the first of four activities designed to create awareness about GBV. The students actively engaged in discussions about various forms of GBV, sharing their experiences and exploring ways to recognize and prevent abusive behaviors. The workshop provided a safe space for students to express their thoughts and learn about the importance of respectful relationships. Photos from the event capture the intensity of the discussions and the passion of the participants, such as students in a circle discussion and a student presenting their perspective on GBV.
